Hold types — a beginner's cheat sheet

Jug

Big, friendly, easy to grab — wrap your whole hand around it.

Sloper

Rounded with no edge — open hand and trust the friction.

Crimp

A tiny edge for your fingertips. Easy on the fingers it is not.

Pinch

Squeeze it between thumb and fingers like a big chip.

Pocket

Holes for one to three fingers — mono, two, or three.

Edge

A flat horizontal ledge — stand tall and weight your feet.

Current routine

  • Climbing: one half-day session per week.
  • Strength (daily): fingerboard hangs, ring pull-ups, deadlifts, and push-ups.
